What is A H1N1?

It means Influenza A Virus Subtype H1N1. This virus is the MOST common cause of influenza in humans. Some strains of this virus is endemic in humans. It was also the cause of a 50-100 million deaths when it became pandemic (worldwide) on 1918. Other strains of H1N1 is prevalent on pigs and birds, known as
swine flu and avian flu respectively.

The main mode of transmission of A H1N1 is via droplet nuclei which is expelled in the air via talking, sneezing, coughing from a person 3 feet away from you or less. Knowing this, we can conclude that we can avoid acquiring the virus if we avoid close contact with people who shows influenza like symptoms.


Here are 5 things you can do to avoid the virus:

1)HAND WASHING!!!! Clean hands thoroughly with soap and water or with an alcohol. Especilly before touching your nose or mouth or those that can easily be contaminated.
2)Avoid close contact to those who are suspiciously showing symptoms of the illness.
3)Improve airflow in your house
4)Avoid crowded areas
5)Always practice good health habits! Boost your immune system... eat well, sleep well and be physically active!


How to detect if I have A H1N1?

Well, the difference is hard to spot, since symptoms look pretty similar with seasonal flu. In order to confirm, we need medical assistance.
Typical symptoms are: cough, headache, body aches, sore throat and runny nose.
